Sacajawea Presentation
The Johnson County Historical Society presents Sacajawea, a presentation by Ira Roadifer, at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, October 21, at the Twing Room of the Johnson County Library.
Sacajawea’s life was one of adventure and discovery. She had a purpose, and her purpose helped expand the United States in the early 1800s. Sacajawea, a young Shoshone woman, helped Lewis and Clark on their Corps of Discovery expedition. These men were set with the task of exploring the vast lands of the Louisiana Purchase. Ira Roadifer will lead us along their path, sharing stories of their journey and discussing what happened to Sacajawea after the expedition — and where she is most likely buried.
Roadifer grew up in Crook County, Wyoming. After graduating from Sundance High School, he attended Chadron State and earned a degree in vocational education. He was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in Korea. When he returned to the States, he taught school for two years at Clearmont, then took a job at the VA Medical Center in Sheridan. He worked there for 22 years before working at the Wyoming Veterans Home in Buffalo for 13 years. An active member of the Clearmont Historical Group, Roadifer enjoys researching Wyoming history and visiting historical sites. He has helped publish 10 books with the Clearmont Historical Group.
