Bison, Indian Chief and Mountain Man
Located at the Bank of Buffalo, “Bison, Indian Chief and Mountain Man” is a metal sculpture created by the late artist Lyndon Pomeroy. A native of Sidney, Montana and graduate of Montana State University in Bozeman, Pomeroy’s monumental sculptures are on display in Havre, Billings, Helena and Great Falls as well as the states of Washington and Wisconsin.
“I began using Ivory soap [for sculpting], and I recall my first subject was a horse,” he said. “I probably sold him for a few nickels. Maybe gave him away.”
Lyndon taught at Montana State University-Billings when it was Eastern Montana College for three years, “but I kicked that habit in 1961,” he said.
“If you’re an artist, that’s how you make your living. If you don’t earn your keep with it, it’s your hobby,” he said.
