Mikesell-Potts Recreation Area

The Mikesell-Potts Recreation Area is a county-wned facility offering camping and boating facilities on the south shore of scenic Lake DeSmet. It is located 8 miles north of Buffalo off exit 51 of Interstate 90. Each year, Lake DeSmet is visited by locals and travelers from across the country who enjoy fishing, boating, swimming, camping and pristine views of the water and surrounding mountains. Camping is available on a first-come, first-served basis at this site with more than 60 overnight spots, including eight with electricity. Other amenities available at no charge include: two boat ramps, a volleyball court, horseshoe pits (coming soon), picnic areas for day use at the beach area, and four restrooms (one open year round). Reservations are not accepted. There is no potable water nor are there any dump stations at this facility.
