Powder Pass 449 is located 33 miles west of Buffalo on the north side of U.S. Highway 16, just west of Pole Creek and east of the Powder River Pass.

PP449 was created in the fall of 2005 to accommodate backcountry users. There are no designated trails. The area contains 2,940 acres of trees, steep valleys and a few cleared spur roads. Forest Service Road 449 bisects the area.

Telemarkers, cross-country skiers, snowshoers and snowboarders enjoy the area for non-motorized use from November 16 (or the first snowfall) through May 15. Parking is available behind the highway delineators. The PP449 parking area can be difficult to see from Highway 16.
