Colorful skeins of yarn displayed on a wall at Mountain Meadow Wool, a unique thing to do for families in Buffalo, WY.

More than just a shop, Mountain Meadow Wool is a chance to see the process at the spinning mill — the largest in the West.

Family-operated by Karen Hostetler and her son Ben, Mountain Meadow is committed to revitalizing the American wool industry through eco-friendly operations and fair prices for ranchers.

The mill offers custom processing, custom blending and spinning, as well as 23 different types of yarns that can be hand-dyed in custom colors. It uses bio-degradable soaps and non-petroleum spinning oil. Mountain Meadow currently processes over 60,000 pounds of wool a year.

In addition to a self-guided tour of the facility, you can check out the shop that sells yarn, clothing items, hats, scarves, gloves and mittens, slippers, blankets and throws, and much more.
