Bomber Crash of 1943

The Jim Gatchell Memorial Museum and the Johnson County Historical Society present Bomber Mountain, with author Sylvia A. Bruner talking about the plane crash of June 1943 in Johnson County.

In that month, with World War II raging, 41 heavy bombers were lost in the continental U.S. Late on the night of June 28, 1943, a B-17 went missing over Wyoming. There were 10 men on board, headed overseas to take part in bombing raids in Europe, but they never made it. Two years later, area cowboys discovered the wreckage strewn across the otherwise picturesque landscape.

On Monday, April 28, at 6:30 p.m., Bruner will tell the story of that plane and its crew.

Bruner, also the director of the Jim Gatchell Memorial Museum, has written a book, The Wyoming Bomber Crash of 1943, scheduled to be released the previous week.

WHEN: 6:30 p.m., Monday, April 28
