History Talk: Owen Wister Out West

The Johnson County Library’s 2025 winter series of Local History Talks with Nancy Tabb continues on Friday, February 7, with a presentation about Owen Wister, the author who penned “The Virginian,” believed to be one of the first Western novels. Wister wrote the book after his visits to Johnson County around the time of the Johnson County Cattle Wars, and it is believed the Occidental Hotel & Saloon in Buffalo inspired the setting for the book’s climactic duel.

The presentation is scheduled for 3 p.m. in the Twing Room.

WHEN: 3 p.m. Friday, February 7

WHERE: Johnson County Library (Twing Room), 171 N. Adams Ave., Buffalo WY 82834
