Camping and RVing is perhaps one of the best ways to really experience and discover the history and beauty of Buffalo and Kaycee, Wyoming, the Bighorn Mountains, and Cloud Peak Wilderness. Of course, an area popular with outdoor enthusiasts has many choices of where to camp. We’ve compiled a list of places to explore so you can start planning your camping trip.
Buffalo, Wyoming Camp Sites & Campgrounds
Buffalo KOA
Buffalo KOA is a picturesque campground with everything you could want or need. RV sites include pull-through and back-in sites, each with full hookups, plus Wi-Fi, and a picnic table that accommodates up to eight people. Some sites come with patio furniture, a fire pit, chiminea, charcoal grill, or gas grill. Tent sites accommodate up to six and come equipped with tent pads, picnic tables, and fire pits. The one-bedroom cabin sleeps up to four, and the two-bedroom cabin sleeps up to six and offers air conditioning, heating, ceiling fans, and a charcoal grill, with a shared camp kitchen, bathrooms, and showers nearby. The whole family will enjoy fishing along the banks of Clear Creek, gem mining for amethyst and prehistoric fossils, as well as a swimming pool, playground, game room, horseshoe pit, and a convenience store stocked with sundries and souvenirs. Furry friends can play in K-9 Kamp, the onsite enclosed dog park.
Deer Park Campground
Deer Park is a full-service RV Park, offering wide pull-through sites that can accommodate big rigs with full hookups, as well as tent sites, each with a picnic table and access to free Wi-Fi and cable television. Adults over 55 can choose from a limited number of large monthly sites in an area independent of overnight guests. Individual one- and two-bedroom cabins with bunkbeds accommodate groups of four and six travelers, respectively. Deer Park Campground guests can take a dip in the large heated swimming pool and stroll along the private half-mile wooded walking path. Restrooms and showers are available, and a small camp store provides a limited selection of groceries and RV supplies.
Indian Campground & RV Park
Conveniently located at the junction of I-90 and I-25 is Indian Campground & RV Park. Premium pull-through and back-in RV sites offer full hookups, Wi-Fi, and cable television nestled in well-manicured trees. Grassy tent sites line the banks of French Creek and accommodate up to two tents and four guests per site. Similarly, rustic cabins accommodate up to four guests and come equipped with electricity, Wi-Fi, a porch swing, and a picnic table. Visitors can relax or play in the large heated swimming pool, explore the Clear Creek Trail, fish the nearby stream, and walk to local restaurants.
Lake Stop Resort and Marina, Buffalo
The Lake Stop Resort and Marina overlooks Lake DeSmet and offers both motel and cabins as well as RV Park and campgrounds. The RV sites are back-in with full hookups, including water and electric. These large sites and the remote tent sites offer a fire pit, barbecue grill, and picnic table. Perhaps the most unique feature of The Lake Stop Resort and Marina is the onsite restaurant and bar. Guests will also enjoy the heated swimming pool, sauna, playground, convenience store, and walkable access to water activities on nearby Lake DeSmet.
Kaycee, Wyoming RV Camp Sites & Campgrounds
KC RV Park & Cabins, Kaycee
KC RV Park and Cabins is open year-round and offers RV pull-through sites with full hookups and free Wi-Fi. The onsite deluxe cabins feature two bedrooms and one bath to accommodate four to five guests. These comfy cabins come equipped with full kitchens, satellite television, air conditioning, and heat. What’s more, those traveling with horses will find corals to house your trusted steed. While there aren’t any tent sites here, a hunting camp for large groups and a processing room are available for those looking to hunt elk, deer, antelope, moose, mountain lion, and bear.
Powder River Campground & Cabins, Kaycee
Powder River Campground & Cabins is the sister location to KC RV Park and Cabins. Also open year-round, this campground offers RV sites with full hookups plus dry camping spots and tent sites. The campground features a bathhouse and small laundry facility and has a hunting camp for large groups. The onsite two-bedroom cabins are all-inclusive with a bathroom and full kitchen, and some include a barbecue grill.
Bighorn Mountains Camp Sites & Campgrounds
There’s nothing quite like pitching a tent and camping under the stars in the Bighorn National Forest, where mountain biking, hiking, and fishing are plentiful. There are many choices of where to stay, including Circle Park campground near the Circle Park Trailhead with ten single sites, South Fork Campground along the South Fork of Clear Creek with 14 total sites nestled in lodgepole pines, and Middle Fork Campground near the Cloud Peak Wilderness Area along Middle Clear Creek offering nine sites. Tie Hack Campground offers 20 sites near the Tie Hack Reservoir, which is excellent for canoeing and fishing. Dispersed camping is available at Elgin Park with some horse camping amenities.
Recreational vehicle camps are found inside Bighorn National Park. Tie Hack Campground on the east side of the scenic Cloud Peak Skyway, and Sitting Bull and Boulder Park Campground both on the west side of the scenic Cloud Peak Skyway.
Groups are also welcome, with some campsites designed to accommodate up to 15 guests. Hettinger Group Campground near the Cloud Peak Skyway can be used for overnight camping or day-use picnicking and comes equipped with picnic tables, grills, and a campfire circle, plus a vault toilet, drinking water, and trash collection. Willow Park Group Campground can accommodate up to 150 people for picnicking and up to 60 people for overnight camping and also offers picnic tables, serving tables, grills, a campfire circle with benches, an accessible vault toilet, drinking water, and trash collection.
For those looking for privacy and seclusion, Doyle Creek Campground is situated in a densely forested area of lodgepole pine. Campsites are located on a creek and meadow in a peaceful and remote setting. Lost Cabin Campground is located on the east side of the scenic Could Peak Skyway on a hillside among a thick grove of lodgepole pines.
