The Johnson County Road and Bridge Department has closed Crazy Woman Canyon Road to all traffic — including pedestrians, automobiles, and bicycles — for road maintenance.
This closure is a necessary step in preparation for the upcoming bridge replacement project and is critical to ensuring public safety.
A full closure of Crazy Woman Canyon to all traffic — including pedestrian, automobile, and bicycle access — will be in effect from June through September 2025. The closure is necessary to ensure public safety and facilitate two major bridge replacement projects.
The first project, led by Johnson County in partnership with the Federal Highway Administration, involves replacing the bridge located at the bottom of Crazy Woman Canyon. This project is funded through a combination of Johnson County Road Funds and the Federal Lands Access Program (FLAP).
In addition, the U.S. Forest Service will be replacing a bridge located further up the canyon during this same period.
Johnson County is committed to delivering infrastructure improvements that support safe and reliable access.
These critical infrastructure improvements are essential to maintaining safe and reliable access in the area.
Johnson County appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation during this time. Residents and travelers are encouraged to plan alternate routes accordingly.
Project updates and additional information will be shared on the Johnson County website and official social media channels as work progresses.
