Longmire Days, the annual celebration in Buffalo, Wyoming, honoring Craig Johnson's fictional city of Durant in Absaroka County and his Longmire Mystery Series, was inspired by real places and landmarks in the community. Johnson, who lives in nearby Ucross, created the fictitious setting of Durant and Absaroka County Wyoming for his Longmire Mystery Series with the first book being published in 2004.
Along with all the art Johnson County provides, we also have a collection of writers and published works from local authors. Buffalo is also home to the Johnson County Arts and Humanities Council (JCAHC), who offer a monthly Writers Ink group.
Buffalo offers performing arts entertainment throughout the year with local theater and musical performances. Catch a show with our local community theater or stop by on Thursday nights for our saloon jam and listen to some great local muscisians.
Pottery, Metalworks & Bronzes Buffalo is home to some amazing potters, blacksmiths and sculpture artists. You can see the sculpture “Johnson County Cattle War” standing at First Northern Bank and “Good Ride Cowboy” a Chris LeDoux tribute in Kaycee.
