The most popular airports to fly to Buffalo and Kaycee, Wyoming, are the Billings-Logan International Airport and the Rapid City Regional Airport, where many visitors start their journey at Mount Rushmore, stopping in Johnson County, Wyoming, on their way to Tensleep, Wyoming. A full suite of car rental companies is located at both, with the most variety of airlines to choose from.
The closest airport is the Sheridan County Airport, offering affordable, efficient, reliable and safe air service to and from Denver International Airport on United Airlines. Both Avis and Budget rental cars are available in the terminal for convenience. Check early for availability on rental cars. Another option is the Casper-Natrona County International Airport, which offers some rental cars onsite.
Buffalo is one of the most accessible cities in Wyoming with Interstate 90, Interstate 25 and U.S. Highway 16 running through the county. I-90 and I-25 meet just north of downtown Buffalo; while Kaycee is located along I-25 just 45 minutes from Buffalo and 45 minutes north of Casper.
Highway 16 is the most picturesque and safest route from the east to Yellowstone National Park. The highway is designated as the Cloud Peak Scenic Byway from Buffalo through the majestic Bighorn National Forest and Tensleep Canyon.
Travelers Tip: For those venturing through Johnson County to Yellowstone, spend the night in Buffalo to enjoy the scenic drive at the start of the next day.
